Great Britain dominated Wednesday’s Young Horse Finals presented by Dammann Reitplatz- u. Sportsplatzbau GmbH at the Spring MET IV, with British riders winning all three classes.

For the 5-year-old horses it was Caro Z (Clintissimo Z x Renkum Valentino) and Maisie Drea (GBR) that were the best, against a field of 25 other horse-and-rider combinations. Eleven of them went clear over the first-round track set at 1.20m, and seven repeated themselves to jump double clears.

It was however one of the most consistent pairs during Spring MET IV that went off with the top honours, after being clear all the way of the two weeks of competition with a victory as well as a second-place finish from last week to look back at. With a time of 32.69, Drea and her mare left Oleg Krasyuk (UKR) to the runner-up position with his time of 32.85 seconds in the jump-off riding Propolis (Pan AM VDL x Kojak).

Great Britain was strongly represented in the top five with Jamie Wingrove (GBR) and Iniesta KS (I’m Special de Muze x Larino) finishing third with a time of 34.72, and Adrian Whiteway (GBR) on Chacco Volo (Chacco-Blue x Carthago) fifth in 35.77 with Shannon Meinert Ketterle (DEN) on Copy Cat Z (Chellano Alpha Z x Cassini II) sneaking in between in fourth with her time of 35.21.

For the 6-year-olds the track for the final was set at 1.30m, and out of the 35 horse-and-rider combinations in the class 18 jumped clear rounds to proceed to the jump-off. Against the clock, twelve pairs repeated their clean sheets from round one.

Adrian Whiteway (GBR) was the quickest against the clock aboard Cooley Network (Boswell Mr Heart Breaker x Coronado) crossing the finish line in 31.29 seconds. Not too far behind followed Barry Drea (IRL) Okehurst Mr Mexico (Billy Mexico x breeding unknown) with a time of 31.45, while Jennifer Pedersen (DEN) and Helga (breeding unknown) ended third stopping the clocks at 33.01. Sven Otto (GER) on Carli P (Calido I x Carthago Z) had a time of 34.38 to finish fourth, and Marc Bettinger (GER) on Sahilou (Calvaro Z x Lansing) was fifth in 34.39 seconds.

The 7-year-old final was also followed by “God Save the Queen”, as Jane Annett (GBR) and My Lady O.L. (Armitage 2 x Landlord) secured the victory by 0.09 seconds.

A total of 28 horse-and-rider combinations had lined up for this 1.40m final, and fifteen of them managed to produce clears over the first-round track. Against the clock, another six jumped clear again and close behind the winner followed Oleg Krasyuk (UKR) on Apollon (Pan Am VDL x ) in 34.70 seconds.

Ruben Gomez Crespo (ESP) and Draco de Pravia (Darco x Quidam de Revel) secured the third place for the hosts in 36.79 seconds, while Bliss Heers (USA) ended fourth on Go Eldor (Eldorado van de Zeshoek x Verdi) in 37.98 seconds. Manuel Pinto (ESP) was the second home rider in the top five aboard Credo-Blue (Chacco-Blue x Darco) taking the fifth place after producing the time of 39.35 in the jump-off.

The Spring MET is now in its last week of competition, and will conclude on Sunday with a CSI2* Grand Prix counting for the world ranking.
